To be honest, I don’t know — and no one truly does. Evangelical Protestants claim to be the most Bible-oriented of all.¹ ²
So what can be trusted? Well, there’s no clear answer.
You may ask what type of Christian I identify as. I'd say: a trier in the eyes of the Lord — because we are not as holy as our Father in Heaven, yet we strive to be as close as possible.
“Judge, but judge righteously.” I don’t look to a denomination to define my place under the Lord. Jesus didn’t create a denomination — He emphasized a relationship with the Father rather than rigid ways to worship. So I encourage you: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” In that pursuit, wisdom will follow, and you may discover which denomination aligns with your walk.
Personally, I choose to grow in my relationship with the Lord under the freedom He gave us — not confined to human-made rules about how to honor Him. Though that is my path, we should all agree on this: every believer should have a deep and personal connection with God. That can happen in many ways — even within a denomination.
Denominations: Benefits and FlawsYes, being in a denomination can help keep you grounded in your praise and walk with God. But consider the following:
So, while denominations have their benefits, they also have serious flaws. If one is present often around your area, it might be more genuine than the rumors suggest. Still, always be careful who you associate with — even at church. Some paths may lead you where you never intended to go.
“Thanks fr boi that's why when people ask me what type of Christian I am I always tell them that my Christianity relies on my relationship with Christ — nothing else.”
That was my friend’s reply after I sent him a picture outlining different denominations. He sent that message after I warned him to be cautious about how he engages with others, as he might end up in situations he never intended to be part of.
There is no absolutely right or wrong denomination. It comes down to preference. But one thing we all need is this: a personal relationship with God — one where you can speak or write to Him everything that weighs on your heart.
